American Idol Season 7 runner-up David Archuleta recently landed a book deal with HarperCollins imprint Dey Street Books to write a memoir about his experiences growing up Mormon and later coming out.

American Idol‘s David Archuleta to Release Memoir

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Archuleta’s upcoming memoir will detail, “for the first time,” his experiences growing up in the Mormon Church, competing on American Idol at 17 years old, and making the “lifesaving decision” to come out as a member of the LGBTQ+ community.

“Through encouragement from friends, I’ve decided it’s important to share my story,” Archuleta said in a statement. “I hope it will help others understand the struggles those in the LGBTQ+ community have coming out in religious communities, provide light to anyone navigating difficult family dynamics or faith transitions, and encourage everyone to give more room to love yourself.”

Archuleta has also signed with Mainstay Entertainment and the Chicane Group for representation. The singer is also said to be working with producers and writers on a new project for 2024 which “reflects the next chapter of his artistic evolution and continued touring career.”

Archuleta Released a Few Singles Last Year

In 2023, Archuleta released a few new singles for fans to enjoy — “UP,” “I’m Yours,” and “Afraid to Love.” The year before, he released the track “Faith in Me.” The singer hasn’t released a full-length album since 2020’s Therapy Sessions.

Last year, Archuleta competed on Season 9 of The Masked Singer as Macaw. Unfortunately, he didn’t end up winning the season. Instead, he once again finished the competition in second place, behind Medusa (Bishop Briggs).

Earlier this month, Archuleta performed at the 2024 Rose Parade Opening Spectacular, alongside Cassadee Pope, Michelle Williams, and Rush Davis.
