Britain’s Got Talent returned over the weekend for Series 16, as judges Bruno Tonioli and Simon Cowell both hit the Golden Buzzer during the two-night premiere. In Tonioli’s case, he hit the Golden Buzzer while the act was still performing.

Bruno Tonioli Hits Britain’s Got Talent Golden Buzzer
The first Golden Buzzer recipient of Series 16 is a dance group from Uganda called Ghetto Kids. One of their members described the group as “like an orphanage,” with 30 kids in one house. They’re provided with food and clothing, and their school fees are paid for.
The judges and audience were totally feeling the group’s energetic dance performance, especially new judge Bruno Tonioli. There were reports when the auditions were filming about Tonioli hitting the Golden Buzzer before an act was finished performing. Now we finally got to see it.
“I have to do it now!” Tonioli said before slamming his hand down on the Golden Buzzer. Confetti rained down on the kids as they continued to perform.
Simon Cowell pointed out that this has “never actually happened,” explaining that the Golden Buzzer is supposed to be pressed after the performance. Tonioli apologized, saying, “I got it wrong.” However, Cowell called it “magical” to see them performing with the confetti.

Simon Cowell Gives the Honor to Young Singer
During the second night of BGT Series 16, Cowell hit the Golden Buzzer for a 13-year-old singer named Malakai Bayoh. Makakai shared that he started singing at 7 years old when he joined a choir. He called his mother his “biggest fan.”
For his audition, Malakai performed “Pie Jesu,” showing off a beautiful operatic voice that had Tonioli crying. Afterward, Simon Cowell told the young singer, “There’s only one word I can use to describe that — golden.”
That’s when Cowell hit the Golden Buzzer for Malakai. His mother and sister screamed with excitement from the audience as confetti fell on the stage. Cowell told Malakai that he has “one of the best voices I think I’ve ever heard.”
Cowell has teased that there are eight Golden Buzzers this year, so we can’t wait to keep watching and see the rest.
