Britain’s Got Talent fans continue to talk about Maxwell Thorpe’s impressive audition days after the episode premiere. After nearly 10 years of busking, this singer dominated the stage and quickly became a standout in the competition. Here’s everything there is to know about him.

Meet Opera Singer Maxwell Thorpe

This 32 year old opera singer has spent the majority of his life performing for an audience that passes him by. Even though he’s always loved to show off his talent, he previously had no plan to audition for the X Factor or Britain’s Got Talent.

Maxwell has been attempting to be a full time singer by busking (playing for tips on the streets) of Sheffield, England, for about 10 years. As a result, the London Palladium was the biggest crowd he has ever sung in front of. While it was not mentioned on the series, reports state that Maxwell hasn’t had any type of professional voice lessons.

Maxwell powered through his nerves to give a beautiful performance of “Caruso” by Luciano Pavarotti. His rendition brought the audience and judges to their feet at the end of his performance. It’s clear that his BGT journey comes from many years of hard work and determination.

In a recent interview, Maxwell admitted that he almost auditioned for the talent series last year, but changed his mind due to nerves. He explained that his priorities and perspective has changed since attempting to audition in the past, which is how he mustered the courage actually audition. Without revealing whether he made it into the semifinals or not, he says that he’s ready to shine on the stage in weeks to come.

BGT Wasn’t His Television Debut After All

Although Maxwell performs in the streets, Britain’s Got Talent was not his iTV debut. He was showcased as part of the show iTV Calendar News in 2019. At the time, the platform shared that the busker travelled throughout cities in the United Kingdom, as well as to Greece and Switzerland to share his art. Almost every bystander seen within their program was impressed by his opera singing. Some even suggested for him to audition for a competition series!

This singer came to the series with a small number of followers on social media. He currently has 1,574 followers on Instagram, 187 on TikTok, and 741 subscribers on YouTube. Even though he had been busking for years, he somehow continued to be undiscovered online.

Since his audition was so impressive, fans already consider him to be destined for a spot in the finale. It felt like this was another Paul Potts moment for this series. For those who don’t know, Potts debuted on series one as a phone salesman who wanted to sing. Since he gave off the same, nervous approach to his audition, fans believe that Maxwell will follow in his footsteps. Potts was crowned as the first winner of Britain’s Got Talent in 2007. Although there have been other impressive acts, Maxwell has become one of the most talked about to date.
